A notarized document is authenticated when the relevant government authority certifies that the notary is registered in good standing in the province and the notary's signature and seal are as they appear on the province's records. The document can be authenticated by either the Management Board Secretariat of the Ontario government or the federal Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. The Ontario government charges a fee of $16 to authenticate a document. Currently, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade does not charge a fee for authenticating documents.
